Spiritual 3 day’s camp for 32 Deaf leaders with the help of “Signs of Love America”

Other Activities:
Day camp for Children & Parents, sports meet, Drama competition, cricket tournament, Sales & stoles at churches, Year ending fellowship, Christmas programmes,tour and elders care.

Colombo Deaf Christian community, worshiping in sign language is progressing on their own since the year of 2006.

We are happy to present our annual report.
“10 years of service 2001 --- 2011’’

Our vision is to help the Deaf & Differently abled people to attain equal status with others.  Making this vision a reality is a journey together both abled & differently abled people.

Our Activities- Based on 4 E’s

1.      Education.
Differently abled children have access to educational services through special & inclusive education.

1.1    Community based Day Care Centre for “Children with Special Needs

1.2    Inclusive Education Unit (school):

1.3    Special Study Programme –  
Sign language, English for Deaf children and adults.

1.4    Computer Skills -
Six month Computer course for 14 Deaf & School drop outs.

1.5    One year Diploma Study Programme on “Disability issues”.  –
         TCL for 15 participants.

1.6    Seminars & Workshop on contemporary issues for Deaf adults, Medical care, mental health, family counseling, Deaf culture, Language development. Nature & Environmental issues.

2.      Employment &Vocational Training.
2.1    Lively hood training & income generating work shop on tailoring, food Processing, farming, lather work & framing. Location: Batticaloa, Colombo, Jaffna, Ratnapura.

2.2    Self employment (Micro credit) loan project.
Ratnapura    - 4 participants                              Colombo - 5 Participants
Kalmunai     - 5 families                                    Jaffna - 7 Participants
Wattala        - 12 Children and their families

3.         Empowerment   

  • Sales & stoles at churches,
  • ‘We grow’  -Leadership 3 day’s camp for 42 deaf adults at city mission , Year ending fellowship, and Spiritual 3 day’s camp for 32 Deaf leaders,

  • One day Seminar for all special Education Teaching Staffs
  • Trauma counseling training at Vavunia-3 days Programme (45 participants from Deaf link & other organization)

 

4.         Entertainment.

  • Day camp for children & parents at Hatton and Kalmunai (Total

      Participants- 375).

  • Sports meet at Kalmunai and Anuradapura ,
  •  Cricket tournament organized  for all Island deaf clubs.

Special Programmes:

  • Celebration of International Disability day at Kalmunai
  • Christmas Gifts for children at Urugodawatta slums area along with environment unit.
  • Deaf Conference - 14 Deaf Leaders participated in New Delhi
  • 10th year celebration at Uduvil centre
  • Distributed 14 hearing aids to Children & elders.
  • Deaf Christian community - worshiping in sign language at Colombo 
  • Year Ending Get together took place in all Centers
  • Christmas Gift distributed among Deaf Children and Adults (Jaffna, Colombo, Welegama,Wattala, Nuweraliya, Batticaloa and Kalmunai)
  • Flood relief packets {worth of Rs 1,500} were distributed for 200 families in batticaloa, Kalmunai, Mandur, Kokadicholai & Anuradhapura.
  • Three days’ workshop at Ahsram Pacikuda - to evaluate the past, prepare the future plan and especially to celebrate the 10th year of deaf link.
  • Two days Seminar - organized by C.B.M   on Local Fund raising and Strategy planning on Disability issues.
  • Special working committee has been appointed towards 10th year celebration.
  • A Computer unit gifted to Ragama Physiotherapy unit by MRDS.

  • 100,000 - Printing & distributing of  Hand bills on Disability awareness
  • 10,000,000 - Rupees of Fund Raising towards our Target.
